Software

For details about my career as a software developer, have a look at my resume

I took a break from developing software in 2002, scratched some other itches, then took it up again in 2008.

Lately, I'm interested in database driven web applications.  Though HTTP and XML were integral parts of the product my last company built, I never got around to building my own website.  In 2008, I helped a friend out and added a database and some PHP pages to a his website to provide him with some basic content management functionality, thus learning a little PHP.  Then, I built this site using Drupal and couldn't resist getting under the hood to learn how it all works.  In the process of those two projects and through additional experimentation, I learned HTML, PHP, CSS, and some Javascript.  It was fun!

I'm currently developing business web-apps using Ruby on Rails for a boutique development shop here in Austin called Capital Thought.  We specialize in incubating technology startups and we have a few startup businesses of our own that we manage.  I have found Ruby on Rails to be refreshing and exciting after having been in the trenches of proprietary and platform-specific telecommunications and enterprise systems development for so much of my past.

I've written numerous applications of my own through the years.  I'll try to get them together and post them here eventually.  I hope to have other more current information on this page soon also.
